Summer decorating ideas 2021 – simple tips to refresh your home

Words by Marketing Director, John Smigielski

Summer decorating? Yes, we know one doesn’t suddenly start packing away everything in the same fashion as one’s woollies with the first rays of sunshine. Yet, as with the start of January when the idea of newness is in the air, summer provides the perfect opportunity for a little ‘nip and tuck’ of each room. Where to start though? Follow our decorating advice… as light-hearted and breezy as the summer months (hopefully) are…

Floral curtains are the on-trend choice for every window

Belleville/Royal Garden/Linwood

When we look out to the garden and see roses, hydrangeas, and other classics, it really does lift the spirits. Fancy enjoying such an abundant display every day? Then consider floral curtains – they have moved up the style ranks in recent months and are now being seen in both contemporary and period homes. Just look at how this dining room’s scheme is enlivened with these colourful, patterned curtains. Featuring a display of blooms and birds, this design is English through and through. Other ideas to mull over, which are fresh, vibrant, and most importantly welcoming include:

Why every bedroom needs a statement headboard

Tresco/Linwood

Getting into bed at the end of the day is so much better if your bedroom feels joyful. One of the cleverest ways to add a burst of cheerful, summer fresh colour or pattern to your room is the addition of an upholstered headboard. It shows off fabric to its best as it offers a large expanse to highlight the beauty of your chosen design. For a classic feel, opt for this pretty trailing floral. Scatter even more blooms by adding cushions to your bed – pick a colour theme or stick to similar patterns but don’t be too rigid, the more relaxed the better. Our durable and stain-resistant velvet offer endless possibilities for any headboard. Two of current favourites are:

 Crystal Sunset/Linwood

Les Fauves/Linwood

The easy one… update your cushions

Otto/Cushions/Linwood

With so many designs available, this is one of the simplest ways to refresh your home. And rest assured, all of Linwood’s cushions tick the two most important boxes: they are made from soft, luxurious velvet and they measure a generous 50cm sq. If colour and pattern are your thing, consider our new Otto velvet cushions. With their classic carpet pattern and unexpected burst of colour on the back they will never fail to delight. When it comes to styling your sofa, choose your main design as the focus and combine with patterns and geometrics in varying proportion.

Sofa makeover made easy… the return of the slipcover

Luna/Linwood

Until recently, we had forgotten how useful slipcovers for sofas are. However, we have noticed that more and more people are asking for slipcovers and no wonder… they allow you to ring the changes of the seasons; they are easy to clean compared to fixed cover sofas and it’s simple and relatively affordable to replace them. The sofa above is covered in Luna, which is our plain vintage-style fabric with a casual washed feel. There are 25 sophisticated colours to choose from, including Mineral (shown) to Blossom.  Two other collections to consider if you are in the market for the perfect, washable fabric for loose covers are:

Pink… it’s the colour you’ve never thought about until now

Verde/Linwood

No longer just for girls’ bedrooms, pink is having a moment. It’s such a sunny, fun colour and it because it pairs so easily with other hues, particularly grey and off-whites, making it one of the easiest colours to introduce it into your home. This sofa is covered in Verde, which is made from 80% recycled cotton. There are five pinks in the collection, ranging from Candy (shown) to punchy Orchid. If you are feeling brave, mix pink with red – it’s one of the most underrated colour combinations.
