At Linwood, we’ve always admired the artistry of embroidery – the way a simple thread can transform fabric into something full of life and texture. Our new Titania collection takes this timeless craft and reimagines it for today’s homes, blending tradition with a fresh, contemporary spirit.
Embroidery has been telling stories for centuries – each stitch a little mark of creativity and care. It’s one of those crafts that never really goes out of style; instead, it evolves, bringing warmth, tactility, and soul to modern interiors.
With Titania, our designers Ella Richards and Jill Duffy-Unwin set out to celebrate embroidery’s heritage while giving it a modern twist. The result? A collection that feels expressive, textured, and effortlessly elegant.
‘We’d long wanted to create an embroidered collection,’ says Ella. ‘But it took the right moment – and the right artisans – to bring it to life.’
Titania features four exquisite designs – Helena, Lysander, Hermia and Oberon – each exploring embroidery’s expressive potential in a different way. Together, they tell a story through stitch, colour, and craftsmanship: timeless yet easy to live with, beautifully made yet relaxed in feel.
Behind the Design – How Titania Came to Life
Embroidery is a global art form, rich with culture and history – from the vibrant suzanis of Central Asia to the intricate silk work of China and the bold crewel stitches of Britain. Titania draws inspiration from these traditions but interprets them through a distinctly Linwood lens: refined, imaginative, and a touch playful.
‘It felt like a natural evolution from our printed linens like Small Prints and Maru,’ explains Ella. ‘Titania shares the same visual handwriting, but with added texture – you just want to reach out and touch it.’
Each design began as a hand-drawn sketch in our Hampshire studio, where Ella and Jill played with scale, rhythm, and composition before collaborating with skilled embroiderers to bring every motif to life. The process was part artistry, part technical mastery – testing countless stitch techniques, from delicate chain stitch to traditional couching, until the perfect balance of movement and texture was achieved.
‘They were amazing to work with,’ adds Jill. ‘Their passion for the craft shines through in every thread.’
Colour development was just as considered. The palette was designed to harmonise with Linwood’s wider fabric collections, so Titania works beautifully in both classic and contemporary interiors. Some patterns drew on archive references, others were entirely new, but all share the same aim – to celebrate the beauty of handcraft with a modern, Linwood twist.
Here’s how each design tells its own story:
Helena: Striking mid-scale oakleaf trail created with traditional couching for a raised, sculptural look.
Lysander: Lyrical all-over embroidery combining flowing ribbons and delicate florals in a refined chain stitch.
Hermia: Richly textured stripe with undulating waves and geometric bands.
Oberon: Modern take on classic stitchwork, with directional rows forming a diamond trellis and subtle rickrack detail
Styling Embroidered Fabrics at Home
There’s something special about texture in a room. It’s what makes a space feel layered, inviting, and lived in. Embroidered fabrics add that instant depth – they catch the light, soften edges, and bring a sense of warmth and artistry.
In Titania, each design plays with texture in its own way: the rhythmic geometry of Oberon, the flowing florals of Lysander, the sculptural relief of Helena, and the playful movement of Hermia. Together, they create a quiet symphony of stitch – perfectly balanced yet full of character.
When it comes to styling, embroidery offers so much more than decoration. It introduces rhythm and a tactile richness that transforms a room. Take Hermia in River, for example – its stitched stripes bring gentle movement to a space, with light catching the threads to reveal subtle dimension.
If you prefer something more structured, Oberon’s geometric pattern adds clarity and definition, making it ideal for blinds or cushions.
Try layering the two together – Hermia’s movement paired with Oberon’s order – for a mix that feels dynamic yet harmonious.
To balance these richly worked designs, pair them with calming plains: the lustrous pile of Omega IV velvet, the organic weave of Loxley, or the relaxed charm of Elba linen. Mixing matte and sheen, stitch and weave, adds real visual depth – the mark of a thoughtfully layered interior.
Artisan Detail with Emotional Impact
There’s an emotional resonance to embroidery that goes beyond design. Each stitch carries the imprint of the maker’s hand – a quiet reminder of time, skill, and care. That’s what gives embroidered fabrics their warmth and soul.
The Titania collection captures that feeling beautifully. It’s a collaboration between designers and artisans, between heritage and modern design.
‘The designs came together so well,’ says Ella. ‘They’re all different, but they sit comfortably together – varied in stitch, unified in spirit.’
Titania is a celebration of craft, creativity, and imagination – fabrics with real character, designed to bring texture, story, and enduring beauty to every home.
